Abstract | This paper presents information from a series of preliminary asynchronous international conversations across four cultural contexts that focus on enhancing the profile of teachers in curriculum decision making. The paper challenges education systems to match the rhetoric about the place of teachers in curriculum decision making with curriculum change and professional development practices. It sets a context for the preliminary conversations by addressing the place of and space for teachers in curriculum decision making, their readiness to engage in it, and the potential for them to have authentic inclusion in curriculum decision making at the classroom, school, and wider policy levels. The paper also considers the methodological framework within which the issue was developed and how the processes associated with it have developed. The three appendixes offer initial comments from participants, followup comments from participants, and an invitation to be part of the continuing conversation. (Contains 25 references.) (SM) |
